Things have been a bit of a garbage fire lately, haven’t they? Luckily, more communities are starting to recognize that one of the best ways to thrive and resist at this time of absolute comic book-level villainy is to provide mutual aid and support to those who need it most. ❤️🔥
You’ve been doing it, too, perhaps without even realizing it.
So many of you participated in our Pay-It-Forward Program, ensuring that low-income folx in our queer and disabled community got toys they otherwise couldn’t afford. I LOVE this. It’s so important that we take care of each other… especially in times such as these Orgasms and boundless pleasure for all! 🌈💦
We landed on this particular form of mutual aid because we’re passionate about helping queer and disabled folx feel good in their bodies. Making this happen has us feeling all the feels.
And you can find similar mutual aid projects that resonate with you, or perhaps start one of your own. It doesn’t have to be energy draining. You can do something that’s fun and connective and super you.
Are you a foodie who loves to feed others? Find yourself a local food pantry, like the Love Wins Food Pantry in NYC, where volunteers distribute free, fresh produce and groceries to queer folks. 🍎🍇🍌
Into crafting and community building? Form a queer crafting club like AlterKNITive in New Jersey or the Queer Craft Society in Ohio in order to create a supportive space for those in your community looking to ease their stress and anxiety while creating something beautiful.
Cleaning out your closet? You can donate chest binders through groups like Point of Pride.
Heck, if you have a pilot’s license, you can even sign up for Elevated Access, a volunteer pilot network that transports folks seeking abortion or gender-affirming care outside their immediate area. 🛩️
Feeling fired up and want to start your own mutual aid project? Look to see if there’s a specific need in your community that’s not being met, and find others in your neighborhood who are down to help out. You can read more on how to get started with this Mutual Aid 101 Toolkit created by organizer Mariame Kaba and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
June is such a great time to celebrate our queerness, and to rally together as a community. Mutual aid work like this is so so so important.
